Morning Secrets Of Successful People

“You’ll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.” — John C. Maxwell

You snooze, you lose

What’s the first thing most people do when they wake up? Hit the snooze button on the alarm a couple of times, finally roll out of bed, reach for a cup of coffee, check social media feeds…

These habits are exactly the opposite of the routines some of the most successful people on the planet follow.

More sleep, less alarm

A cross-section of self-made billionaires share the same belief - waking up at ‘the right time’ isn’t about setting an audible reminder - it’s simply about making sure you’ve had the right amount of sleep.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has eight hours of sleep each night and wakes up without an alarm. Oprah uses her internal clock: "I have never set an alarm, I don't believe in them. They are…alarming! I put the number in my mind, and I wake up before that”. The key to waking up on time is establishing a healthy sleep routine that correctly calibrates your circadian rhythm, meaning you’ll awaken refreshed and in good time to start your day - the earlier the better - and be more likely to make the decisions that lead to success.

Avoid excessive coffee drinking

Up to 60% of the human adult body is water. According to the Journal of Biological Chemistry, the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are watery at 31%. So rehydration is a no-brainer - especially after a whole night without a sip.

While it’s a myth that coffee will dehydrate you, the boost you get from caffeine is short-term and does not compare to the healthy lift in energy you’ll get from a simple glass of water. The list of celebrities who opt for H2O or fresh fruit juices over coffee includes legendary basketball player and broadcaster Shaquille O'Neal, media personality and businesswoman Kim Kardashian, actress and singer Jennifer Lopez, fashion designer Alexander Wang and many others.

Mindfulness over social media

Rather than wasting valuable time scrolling through social media feeds, many successful professionals schedule mindfulness practices into their early morning routines. Meditation, breathing techniques, confidence mantras, gratitude journals etc. stimulate positive thought processes before the workday begins. Business and life coach Tony Robbins has a ten-minute morning ritual he calls ‘priming’.

Get your heart pumping

A number of studies have identified the direct correlation between fitness and success. Respondents in a University of Georgia study reported that a better ability to focus and improved confidence were directly attributable to improved fitness levels. Big names like Barack Obama, Warren Buffet, Bill Gates and Richard Branson fit morning workouts into their busy routines.
