With working from home being the new norm (for now at least), the initial steps of having everyone physically set up and able to go about their workday are likely already done. And sure, as technology improves, we’ll continually adapt to the ever-changing needs and demands of the workplace.

“Motivation is the art of getting people to do what you want them to do because they want to do it.” – Dwight Eisenhower.

But what if that’s not enough?

With the old expectations and normality having been thrown out of the window, many employees need additional motivation to get through the workday. You can start by ensuring a sense of community, improving communication, encouraging a growth mindset, and providing flexibility – all extremely valuable concepts.

But if that’s already been done, what better way to acknowledge employees is there than rewarding them for their efforts?

We’ve come up with some nifty ideas to show your employees that they’re valued, even though they’re not sitting at a desk meters away

Home office upgrades

Perhaps only feasible for smaller companies, but go big or go home, right? If your business is going well and your employees will likely be working from home indefinitely, why not offer them some form of upgrade to their home offices.

You want your employees to be able to thrive, and how their home offices are set up can have an impact on this and their productivity. We’re not saying kit them out with multiple screens and new laptops, but at the very least, you could look into making sure that your employees have an ergonomic office chair and desk.

Provide lunch

Just because you don’t see your employees in person doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy lunch together – virtually, that is. It’s essential to keep in mind the social aspect no longer present when working from home. Where employees were once able to greet each coming in every morning or catch up over a coffee break, the average work-from-home employee may now be reduced to only seeing family.

Send your employees a gift card inviting the entire team to a Zoom call lunch as a midweek pick me. By sending them a gift card, they can choose exactly what they would like delivered and get it ordered to the comfort of their house, just in time for lunchtime! This will help get everyone in this ‘Zoom call lunch mindset’. Times are changing, so we simply have to evolve using what we have. You can break into smaller groups that rotate or have one-on-one lunches depending on how big your teams are.

While you may already have incentives in place, everybody loves a spontaneous gift that isn’t given as a direct reward for accomplishing goals. Depending on your financial capacity, they could be ad-hoc or recurring gifts.

You can use your imagination on this one; it could be anything from as small of a gesture of a coffee gift card to make their morning a little bit brighter, to something of a higher gift tag like workout gear or hiking wear, using our multiple link gifting options.

No matter how you decide to go about it, it’s a given that the acknowledgment will be appreciated - and that little nudge can be just what someone working from home may need to push through.
