“The ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones who do.” – John McAfee

We all hope for a better world but not everyone believes they have the capacity to contribute to that. When we think of a better world, our minds often envision a utopia–without poverty, war, disease, or death.

But, perfection isn’t the only definition of a better world. The world can be a better place with even the smallest of changes that anyone can do and here are 5 things you can do to create a better world.

Donate to a charity
Giving what you can is not only good for the recipients of your generosity, but for you as well. Even reports on scientific studies attest to the fact that you’ll feel good after giving, knowing that you helped improve someone’s life and made their world better.

Every donation makes a difference, no matter how big or small. So, whether you give a percentage of your income to a charity or a cause you believe in, or you donate some of your old clothing or furniture for a second chance in a new home, your kind act will brighten up whatever corner of the world it touches.

Volunteer
If you can’t afford to make a donation or you don’t have much to give, you can always volunteer instead. At any given time there are several projects being done, mostly by non-profit organizations, to improve the world.

For example, organizations like Habitat For Humanity provide disaster relief in the form of shelter assistance and you can volunteer to help build those homes. As studies show, reducing homelessness benefits society and certainly makes the world a better place.

Care for the environment
For years, scientists have warned that humans are the driving force behind climate change due to actions like fossil fuel burning and increased usage of plastics and plastic products.

Your first thought on this might be that there isn’t anything you can do to stop something as big and serious as climate change when bigger industries have failed. However, when it comes to achieving sustainability, every little action counts.

You can opt for reusable canvas bags instead of buying a plastic bag every time you shop, and even shop from brands that make conscious efforts to be sustainable. With enough of these little actions, you can make a big difference when it comes to creating a better, more sustainable world.

Be kind
While giving and volunteering are rooted in kindness, small, kind actions can make a big impact on the world too. Showing gratitude, passing compliments, smiling and being compassionate all have a ripple effect of positivity that creates a kinder, better earth.

It doesn’t take much to be kind, even to strangers or people you’ll only see once and never again. But your generosity will have a lasting impression on those who experience it and the world at large.

Stand up to injustice
Despite all the charities and programmes striving to make the world a safe and fair place for all, injustice still exists; from racial discrimination to corruption and so much more. It might seem ambitious to think there is anything you can do to change that for the better, but it’s actually not.

Supporting people being subjected to injustice helps them know they aren’t alone. There’s strength in numbers and the more people fight injustice, the better the world will be.
